This doesn't seem to be working ....

Seems the whole Net-Neutrality movement is not getting much traction. A few weeks ago H.R. 5252 passed in the House with very little opposition by a vote of 321 to 101. AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth lobbied for this aggressively and some say that this was "payment" for their assistance in the NSA's domestic spying program.

Here is how your representatives voted

Also of interest is the vote on the "Markey Amendment" which would have put specific Net-Neutrality language in the bill.

Yesterday the Senate Commerce Committee approved a similar bill without net neutrality provisions. The final vote was 15-7. (Text of S. 2686)

Not only was any net neutrality provision defeated also an amendment by Sen. John Kerry that would have ensured AT&T and Verizon offer their new video service to all parts of a community within a certain time period, not just to more affluent and easy to service neighborhoods. The vote was 12-10 against.

So basically our elected officials see no problem in giving the internet to the telcos without regard for any safeguards or concerns of municipalities.
