Republicans fail to prevent abortions .....
The Republican party, while on the side of "Right to Life" seems to be failing miserably at it's quest. According to a NY Times Op-ED by Mark W. Roche dean of the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Notre Dame the number of abortions actually increase during republican administrations and decrease during democratic administrations. During the Reagan years the percentage of abortions rose 5% while during the Clinton years it dropped by 36%.
The reason could be that Republicans believe they can protect life by criminalizing procedures while the Democrats by advocating a strong social safety net remove the "need" for abortions.
