Save Skylab!!!
Imagine my surprise when I saw this headline! Um, didn't skylab burn up on re-entry about ... Oh .... 25 years ago? No you haven't fallen through a time warp. Apparently in addition to two flight ready assemblies NASA also ordered three full scale mock-ups of the space station for training and engineering experiments.
Today one of those mock-ups is in Huntsville, Alabama sitting in the parking lot of the US Space and Rocket Center rusting away. A group of volunteers are trying their best to preserve the craft. Read more about it here.
Incidentally the backup flight hardware is in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington D.C. I've walked through that one.
I wonder where the other two mock-ups went .....
